YPDR Marine Dome International Grant Project

The New Canaan Rotary Club's District Matching International Grant to help the Young Pioneer's Marine Dome Project off Bantayan Island in the Philippines is producing results. Hundreds of new 'Marine Domes' will be produced and set in place off the coast of Bantayan Island. These Domes, or 'fish condos', will allow smaller fish to flourish as they can seek shelter inside the dome from larger predators. This safety has proven to allow fish populations to grow dramatically. At the same time, these Marine Domes provide a surface for new coral growth to return to the area and will ultimately help restore the coral reefs which had been lost in the recent Typhoon and other events.
